Curriculum Goal
The goal of this programme is to provide optimal learning opportunities for the purpose of preparing midwives of the highest caliber who will function autonomously within the competencies and scope of Midwifery practice as defined by the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Curriculum Design

1. General courses includes

  1. i) Behavioral Science
  2. ii) Basic Science

iii) Communicative English and Information & Communication Technology (internal subject)

 

2 . Foundation courses includes

  1. i) Anatomy and physiology
  2. ii) Professional Framework and Communication in midwifery

iii) Midwifery Pharmacology

  1. iv) Research and Evidence based Midwifery

3.  Professional courses includes

  1. i) Fundamentals of Midwifery
  2. ii) Art and science of midwifery

iii) Women’s health

  1. iv) Complicated Maternity Experience
  2. v) Complexities of maternity experience
  3. vi) Newborn Complications

vii) Transition to Registered Midwifery Practice and practicum.

Viii) Midwifery Practice I

  1. ix) Midwifery Practice II
  2. X) Midwifery Practicum

 

Duration of Course
There should be a minimum period of three years of education programme. Total hours are 5112 in the three years course. The academic year will start from January in each year. After completion of the program every student has to perform 06 (six) months internship in an appropriate clinical areas/hospitals according to logbook. On the successful completion of the course, the student is required to take the BNMC comprehensive examination for licensing as a registered nurse. BNMC will issue professional License and academic certificate.

 

Student registration
After admission every student’s must do student registration according to BNMC Act (Act No. 48 of 2016) Clause-5 (TA). The validity of the student registration will be of 06 years.

Method of recruitment

The Applicants who meet the following criteria will be eligible to enter into the Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery:

 

  • Entry qualification: The applicants must have passed both SSC & HSC examinations from any discipline from any educational Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Bangladesh. Students will be selected on merit basis.
  • Marks conversion from General Certificate of Education (GCE) – “O‟ level and “A‟ level will be decided by the central admission committee.
  • Medical (physical & mental) fitness will be essential before admission.
  • For foreign candidate: According to admission policy
  • Admission test will be conducted as per Act. of BNMC-2016 according to admission Policy/ Nitimala.

 

Medium of Instruction
English language is used as the medium of instruction but Bangla may be allowed as supplement. A high level of understanding of written English is required, as much of the material that the students will need to read is in academic English. The students also need to be able to write proficiently in English.
